About Us
Before the Covid-19 Pandemic in 2019, I didn’t think much about where my food came from, or what I would do if grocery stores were empty. I did keep a garden–sort of–but it was just a few tomatoes or a stand of corn. My food all came from the grocery store.
Then one day, virtually overnight, all the toilet paper in the whole world disappeared. All the thermometers and soap in existence disappeared as well. (I ask you, if we need this much soap after Covid, how many of you only just now started washing your hands?)
The supply chain for food was messed up as well, and while food was generally available, it wasn’t always what we were expecting. This was the first moment I realized how vulnerable our food supply was.
It was the first shock, but not the last. The war in Ukraine disrupted wheat production for a huge part of the globe and the bird flu is causing egg prices to soar–when eggs are even available.
With all these shocks to the food system, it’s easy to imagine one good push might cause it to collapse. We haven’t seen this push yet, but it’s easier to survive off a garden already in existence, than to find yourself scrambling to get one going after it’s already happened.
This blog is meant to be a helpful guide to people who have seen the writing on the wall, and want a strong victory garden to keep them safe and secure in the face of food scarcity. I hope you find the tips here helpful, and that you get an abundant harvest every year.
Happy Growing!
